INDUSTRY AFFAIRS UPDATE - USA

Through our membership of the Paragon network of global travel associations, ITM is able to bring you a USA Industry Affairs update from our affiliation with NBTA (the National Business Travel Association) in the USA.

The following are the three main items being processed by the US legislative process which affect travel managers in the UK:

Global Entry International Registered Programme

On April 11th 2008 the CBP (Part of the Department of Homeland Security) announced its intention to pilot an International Registered Traveler programme dubbed Global Entry (GE). CBP plans to complete pilots at major international US airports including JFK, Houston and Washington Dulles. The programme will also allow residents of the UK, Germany and the Netherlands into GE if they are approved by the CBP. These countries have been selected because they have agreed to conduct robust checks on applicants and offer reciprocal benefits to US travellers. Click here for more information.

Electronic Systems for Travel Authorisation

This bill allows the US to waive new countries into the Visa Waiver Programme (VWP). For more information about VWP click here

Data Privacy

The US and EU are negotiating a treaty to allow for more complete sharing of travel and other information to combat terrorism and other transnational crimes. Click here for a news update.
