ITM & GTMC CREATE REMUNERATION TASK FORCE

Updated: 23-06-2008

Guild & Institute Join Forces To Create Industry Task Force on Remuneration

The Guild of Travel Management Companies (GTMC) and the Institute of Travel Management (ITM) are to join forces as part of an industry wide task force charged with investigating, challenging and recommending, remuneration models for the purchase of business travel in the future.

The task force, which will consist of GTMC and ITM members will examine the issues of transparency on pricing and the relationships between buyers and suppliers -- an area of travel management that has been a hotly debated and moot point for the past few years.

A range of remuneration options and models will be examined by the task force including, but not limited to, reward by savings only and billable time (similar to professional services such as the law and accountancy professions).

The task force, which is expected to take a year to complete the project, will present its findings and recommendations at a specially convened joint seminar in May 2009 and will be further debated and ratified at the GTMC's conference in Dubai shortly afterwards.

"We're seeking volunteers from the corporate buying field to join this important industry task force" said Philip Carlisle, GTMC chief executive. "We will want them to work with us using their data and experiences to run through alternative options and payment models and help us assess the results".

"Both ITM and GTMC feel it's really important to act on the issues in this industry rather than continue to pontificate," commented Paul Tilstone, executive director of ITM. " We really don't know what the results will be but we hope they will throw up some real alternatives to help move this whole issue of remuneration models along."

Any corporate buyers wishing to take part in the task force should contact Philip Carlisle, GTMC on 020 7637 1091 or Paul Tilstone, ITM on 020 8123 5678
