ITM STARTS SEARCH FOR NEW VICE CHAIR

Updated: 12-05-2010

The Institute of Travel & Meetings (ITM) UK & Ireland has today announced that it is starting the search for its Vice Chair position, a role which prepares the selected buyer for taking on the association's Chairman role in January 2012. As a buyer-led association, the individual must have direct responsibility for managing travel and/or meetings expenditure on behalf of their business.

Past Chairmen have referred to the role as being the perfect personal development vehicle as it requires individuals to undertake industry leadership and the management of a full voluntary board. The selection process involves the interview of a shortlist of candidates by the Chairman, Immediate Past Chair and CEO of ITM.

Speaking about his journey to the Chairman's role and the call he has made for candidates at the association's annual conference, Jamie Hindhaugh, Head of Production L2012 and Head of Sourcing - Logistics for the BBC, said, "We are looking for an individual with the commitment and business support to undertake a challenging but highly rewarding role. The association is more interested in a person's drive, passion, ideas and energy than a set number of years in the business at a certain level but anyone with an interest will be fully considered in the spirit of the association's inclusive approach."

Caroline Strachan, ITM's Immediate Past Chair and Global Category Lead for Astra Zeneca, added ,"The role is a real opportunity for someone looking for their next challenge. It regularly takes you out of your daily job but has certainly driven my thinking up a level and brings immense benefit to my personal development, my day job and my employer. I cannot stress how much I enjoyed the past two years and the opportunity it presented me to make a positive impact on the industry and there is so much more the association plans to do in the future."

Interested candidates are invited to confidentially discuss the role with ITM's leaders before formal interviews take place later his year. The association is looking to announce an appointment towards the end of the year.
