ASSOCIATION CALLS FOR CONTRIBUTORS TO CREATE TOMORROW’s TALENT

Updated: 17-08-2009

Next stage of association's Academy project

The Institute of Travel & Meetings (ITM) UK & Ireland has called upon buyer and industry practitioner (IP) members to contribute to the association's training and talent project, Academy, launched in 2008. After an update announcement at the 2009 conference that ITM and the University of Brighton (UoB) had signed an agreement to partner to develop an industry recognised degree, ITM says that the next stage of the process requires the input of the industry's great and good.

With the association's Professional Certificate Course having just received an "A" classification from BTEC, the association is seeking to build on this and the UoB agreement to build other aspects of the Academy.

ITM is looking for employed or outsourced travel buyer/managers to:-

  • Create case studies on effective procurement and travel & meetings management,
  • Contribute to a Degree Content Steering Group, and
  • Offer internships to students taking the ITM approved degree

Caroline Strachan, ITM chairman and initiator of the Academy project, said about the call, "Now is the time for buyers and practitioners in this industry to contribute to securing the right people for the future. This is a real opportunity to do something big and bold for the industry and I would encourage people to put themselves forward to work with ITM to achieve our goals. Whether your volunteering to contribute to a buyer case study or to put more time in directing content, there's something for any individual or company who wants to give something back"

The buyers and industry practitioners will join the Academy foundation sponsors, to be confirmed by ITM before the year end, and members of the Education Working Party, led by ITM director Jon Reeve of Evolvi, and to build a comprehensive education and training offering to secure bright, young talent to the sector with the training and experience to hit the ground running.
