Buyer Environmental Accreditation
There are 5 levels to the Buyer Accreditation process. Buyers can submit their entries for any of the stages to be considered by ITM's Project ICARUS advisory board each quarter.
![]() | Stage 1 - Commitment Stage Buyers can make a public statement of commitment to ICARUS accreditation. This will tie in with ITM's overall goal of commitment to achieving government target reductions of 60% against the 1990 figure by 2050. This equates to 2.11% per annum until 2050 if you start in 2007 but increases each year your action is delayed. To qualify for the commitment level just send an e-mail with the following statement to paul.tilstone@itm.org.uk . Statement : "As the travel buyer for my corporation, I fully and publicly support the environmental goals of ITM and am committed to achieving Project ICARUS accreditation" | ||
![]() | Stage 2 - Bronze This stage rewards those who have measured, targeted and created a strategy to reduce CO2 emissions from the air element of their travel programmes. Click here to download the accreditation details. | ||
![]() | Stage 3 - Silver This stage rewards those who have achieved an absolute reduction in CO2 emissions from the air element of their travel programmes by at least 2.11 % per annum and are now rolling the programme out to two other travel categories | ||
| Stage 4 - Gold This stage rewards those who have achieved an absolute reduction in CO2 emissions from the air, hotel, rail, ground transportation and business mileage elements of their travel programmes by at least double the minimum 2.11 % per annum (i.e. 4.22% per annum) Click here to download the accreditation details. | ||

Note : All submissions are undertaken through a set application form accessed through the links above and each entry will need to be supported by evidence to support claims
PROCESS
1. Submission of evidence through the set question application
2. ITM ICARUS Panel reviews submissions each quarter, dates advised upon application
3. Interviews take place with company stakeholders where appropriate
4. Accreditation & announcement
5. Accredited company receives accreditation certificate and electronic accreditation stamp for company use.
Buyer Award Charges
£250 for ITM members for each submission stage (Bronze to Platinum)
£400 for non-members
ITM ICARUS Accreditation is valid for the following timeframes dependent on accreditation stage.
- Unlimited for the Commitment Stage
- 24 months for Bronze
- 36 months for Silver
- 36 months for Gold
- 36 months for Platinum
Note : Each 12 months at re-registration is required at a cost of £100 to maintain accreditation but no re-submission is required. Re submission for a another category requires a payment of £250 Corporations cannot go down a level, they drop out if they cannot achieve the same status level on re-application. ITM will keep a public register of all companies who are accredited. Certification is provided Corporations can display logo accreditation as they see fit on e-mails and stationary
