Meet the 2026 Judges: Wayne Lappage

Yunex Traffic | ITM Board, Tech & Sector Specialist
Wayne Lappage is part of the expert judging panel for the 2026 ITM Achievement Awards. We’re unveiling the judges who will be assessing this year’s nominations, each bringing diverse backgrounds and a shared commitment to raising standards across business travel.
Why do awards like this matter?
Awards like this matter because they shine a spotlight on excellence and innovation in our industry. They recognize the individuals and organizations who go above and beyond, setting benchmarks for best practice and inspiring others to raise the bar.
How can recognition help drive positive change in this industry?
Recognition is a powerful strategy for positive change. When we celebrate achievements, we highlight what good looks like, whether that’s innovation, sustainability, or exceptional service. This visibility encourages others to adopt similar practices, creating a positive ripple effect across the industry. It also motivates teams and reinforces the value of continuous improvement. Ultimately, recognition drives progress by turning best practices into common practices and making it the Norm.
What trends or themes do you hope to see reflected in this year’s entries?
I am hoping the entries this year reflect the evolution of our industry and the values we champion. I am looking for entries that demonstrate measurable impact, whether that’s through innovation, sustainability, or traveller wellbeing. Submissions that show data-driven results, creative problem-solving, and collaboration across stakeholders stand out. We should also see a focus on inclusivity and responsible travel practices. Ultimately, the best trends are those that combine commercial success with purpose, shaping a future that benefits both businesses and people.
How do you personally define “impact”?
For me, impact is about creating meaningful, measurable change. It’s not just about activity or visibility. It’s about outcomes that make a difference for people, businesses, and the wider industry. Impact means improving processes, driving innovation, and influencing positive behaviours that lead to long-term benefits. If what we do helps others succeed and sets a standard for progress, that’s true impact.
What does success mean to you — and how do you measure it?
For me, success is about creating lasting impact rather than chasing short-term wins. In the travel management industry, that means shaping strategies that deliver value for businesses, empowering travellers, and driving sustainability. I measure success through three lenses: first, the strength of partnerships we build; second, the positive outcomes for our members and their organizations; and third, the progress we make toward innovation and responsible travel. If we’re influencing change, elevating standards, and leaving the industry better than we found it, that’s success.
Judging soundtrack: what are you listening to while reviewing entries?
That’s easy. I love country music and will be listening to Luke Combs. Right now, he is my favourite artist, much to the annoyance of my 12-year-old daughter.
Dream guest for your table at the Awards ceremony and why?
I am going to say Jono Lancaster, speaker at our ITM event at Celtic Manor. His story, even now, has left a profound impact on me because of the way he overcame adversity and chose to embrace his differences and use them so positively. In Jono I see a great role model for us all. I would love to spend more time with him and for that reason I feel he would be an amazing guest at my table.
